Here’s Why the BMW M3 E30 Is My All-Time Favorite BMW

809 062 Megtekintés

The E30 BMW M3 is a wonderful performance car -- and today I'm reviewing the E30 M3, and I'm going to show you all around it. First I'll show you the quirks and features of the E30 M3, then I'll drive the original BMW M3 and show you what it's like on the road.

  • The turn signal feels great because its barely ever been used! A well-preserved piece.

  • The Check-light in the dash flashes when you have an error in the top panel, so it´s job is to direct your eyes to that very panel to see what the problem is. The reason why it comes on after start is, that the brake light are monitored as well and as soon as you press the brake pedal and they light up for the first time, the car "knows" that they are ok and the light turns off. The "check" button on the top panel is just to check if the light bulbs in the panel itself are ok, it does not check for actual errors in the systems.

  • Not reliable?! The s14 is one of the best engines ever made and has been known to do huge mileage as with the 3.5 6 cylinder from the M5/M1 that it’s based on. The only common weak point with BMW’s of this era is the cooling systems and head gasket failure if they overheat. That’s why BMW stands for “Bring More Water” but there’s very little else that fails on them. And to really see the performance of this car you need to take it on some windy roads, that’s where the whole package comes together and it can really make the best of the modest power. I’d be willing to bet that the ridiculous turbo lag in the integrale would allow the m3 to have the advantage on these kind of roads. and as far as I’m aware the US versions are slightly less powerful than the real European ones. I think they’re roughly 195 Bhp here and they were updated to 215 and more with the evolution models.

  • We will never get back to how cool cars were in the 90s. They weren't fast, but no one cared. Sorry kids, you're stuck with very fast (that you can't drive fast anywhere), boring automatics.

  • I can tell you that when I owed this M3 I would get a honk or comment or offer to purchase at every red light. I regret selling mine. Very sad.

The only reason why old cars look good to us is because new cars are UGLY. But that doesn’t mean I’m gonna pay $70,000 for a 89 M3 or a 95 Supra with 145,000 miles in it 😂 GTFO with that ****

  • Thanks for the great review and a drive down memory lane for me. A third hand 88 M3 was my first car! I had $14K to spend on a car and it was either a brand new Civic (as my older and wiser friends recommended) or "that white M3 with 105K miles on it". It was a no-brainer :-) * Two things you did not mention but I think are noteworthy for this car are the battery sitting in the right side of the trunk and the entire trunk lid being made of fiberglass, supposedly for perfect weight distribution.

  • They're not value for money and because of the prices you could never actually use one as a daily driver with all the idiots crashing out there on the roads today so will never feel like the 1980s yuppie era ever again sadly. Hell I wouldn't even use my 325i as a daily driver now for the same reasons, a shame because an E30 is more than capable of handling the 150 or so miles a year I need to drive :)

  • 8:25 The US Manual is not very precious or you missed the part where it shows for what those 4 Buttons are really for :) If you push "Code" you can lock the Ignition from the Car with a 4 Digit Code :) (but be carefull, you can easily look your self out) The Car will not start until the code is ok, if you try to start the car 3 times without the right code, the Car will execute a 30 sec Alert (Horn etc) Lock Manual (my first 325i got the same big BC2, and i always use it) 1) Shut down the engine. 2) Turn the Key to Position 1 in the Key lock. 3) Press Code 4) Now use the 4 Buttons to set the code. Just 4 Numbers ! You dont have to push a enter button or something like that. 5) If you want to abort, start the engine ! otherwhise Turn the Key to Position 0 6) Now the immobilizer is active. Take out the Key Unlock Manual 1) Insert your Key 2) Turn the Key to Position 1 or 2 3) Insert the Code 4) Start the Engine or press "Set-Res"

  • The check blinks on the cluster until you hit the brakes and it can test those lights. The other reason it would blink is because you already have a red dot lit up on the overhead check panel. EDIT: ALSO The little numbered buttons on the bottom of the OBC are also used to enter a code every-time you shut the car off. It's a security feature that cuts fuel to the motor until you enter the last code punched in. great feature on an 80's car.

The ride & handling of Every car made since is compared to the E30 either directly or indirectly. Not to mention the A+ materials & build quality. But it is a great day for the E30 to have a respected, big-shot automotive reviewer say this. At least it makes me Just a teeny little more proud to be an E30 owner!
