Today, we're checking out two impressive Audi models -- the 2021 Audi RS6 Avant and the 1994 Audi RS2 Avant, which are fast Audi wagons from 25 years apart. I'm going to go over the differences between these two cars, and then I'll drive the RS2 and RS6 Avant to let you know what I think of the driving experience.

  • This review reminds me of the differences I see between my (b4)95 passat vr6 manual wagon and my (b6) 07 passat vr6 tiptronic wagon. Engagement vs technology. Functional need vs luxury. Old fast vs newer almost double the horse power fast. And engines used in audi and porsche vehicles. I enjoy driving the 95 so much more, but I'd be lying if the guy in the dodge ram hemi pulling up to me in the 07 saying "does that thing have the 3.6?! Sh#t! That thing hauls ass!", didn't make me feel cool.

  • It remains to be seen whether all the gauge cluster screens, LED turn signals, electronically shifted transmission and self-raising tailgate on the RS6 will still work after the 27 years that the basic RS2 has survived.

  • mostly aesthetic changes not required to actually drive a vehicle. 25 years later the same 4 wheels, one steering wheel, dual side mirrors, same tail lights as far as required function. The same old internal combustion engine. When they fly call me.

  • I don’t know if i am the only one here who thinks that RS 2 looks so much more “cozy” and True and Distinct .. unlike the RS6 that can be mixed up with pretty much every 3d car on the street.. No excitement at all about those “lines” and “big grills”, Doug.

  • I love Audi wagons, imo those are some of the most beautiful cars ever. And i'm very into new RS6 look but my god if I had the money I would go with that 94' RS2, it is just so much cooler and I love the front, it's just so rally looking, damn.

  • Next time you should test a Aston Martin Cygnet vs a DB10 I like that there aren't any map pockets in the back. At 160mph you wouldn't want to be reading a map in the rear. This isn't as much of a comparison as Doug trying to justify buying the RS2 vs the RS6 Porsche Engineering: "How can we make it go faster." Volkswagen Engineering: "How can we make it break down faster?" Doug caught by the Father of a 16yo girl. "Don't worry, she's relatively legal."

  • Conclusion: Audi's are getting more pointless. Power which you can't use. Interior which doesn't work in sun.. or at night.. or is robust. Price is getting near to supercars, so what is the point? And the 5 cyl sounds better than the new V8. Crazy? Well.. how many cars have V8 now and how many are 5 cyl? Also I want to see this RS6 in 27 years from now. RS6 with V10 were struggling to make it thru the warranty period.

  • Don't agree with his view, RS2 is a pretty car, solid lines, interior is minimalistic, functional. Later Audi cars just scream for attention with round shapes, "race" like-looks and all screens. It states mostly that car design just got worse, trying to make everything look "agressive". Maybe because cars got so much hate lately that they are overcompensating? Audi is btw one of the companies that still holds back on this new design styles and still makes relatively pretty cars. Also funny to see that the square tail light" blocks" are coming back like on the polestar.

  • How is this a tribute to the RS2 Avant and not the S6 plus Avant? The plus came out in 1996, so exactly 25 years ago, also came in Nagaro blue, had a V8 and is based on the A6/100 C platforms and not the A4/80 B platform. It’s probably due to the fact that the anniversary edition was released in Germany in 2019 but I still feel this is much closer to the S6 plus.

    PhilPhil14 napja
  • 11:18 He keeps on talking about "modern standards", but at the time the RS2 existed, the technology inside that car could have been considered cutting edge, leave aside "standard" - look at that compact cassette player, for example, and those gauges above the stick shift

    Connor RawleConnor Rawle14 napja
  • Am I the only one that hates the everything-touchscreens approach of the latest cars? I feel they've overlooked other approaches. I "get" the utility and versatility of a single, large screen high on the center console, but for many controls, you want physical knobs and switches that you can find and operate WITHOUT LOOKING! This is particularly true for things like driving modes, that you may want to QUICKLY adjust while driving. It also would make sense to have a couple of rotary dials that can be used on whatever app the main screen is on -- changing the volume and station on the music screen, zooming in/out and selecting route options on in the navigation screen, etc. That's not to say there can't be on-screen buttons as well, but those are there for the passenger to stare at while they operate. I also think the Bugatti Chiron is a good example of how you can use rotary dials combined with push buttons that have small built-in display screens. Whereas the large main screen is intended to be flexible and get software updates and new apps, there are other things such as the HVAC controls that will never need to change, so these can be put below the main screen. The idea is, if I want to increase the temperature two degrees on my side of the car, my hand can hunt for the knob and turn it two clicks, and I know the little screen is showing two degrees higher even though I never even looked at it.

You can really push the car to its limits and not have to worry too much about speed, and the convertible top on it makes it an awesome car to take on back road drives.
